PITTSBURGH (July 27, 2023) – Bike Pittsburgh (BikePGH) welcomes cyclists from across the country to participate in the 30th Annual UPMC Health Plan PedalPGH. The event will be held Sunday, August 27 at Allegheny Commons Park in the North Side – a brand new location for Bike Pittsburgh’s annual fundraiser, which has grown over three decades to become the largest single-day charity bicycle ride in Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 participants are expected. Cyclists of all ages and experience levels can register now for the fully-supported bike ride to explore the best of Pittsburgh on two wheels – all while raising awareness and funds to improve city streets for biking and walking. Nearly 3,000 participants are expected. Streets will remain open to car traffic.
“The 30th Anniversary of PedalPGH will take you on a joyful journey through the city’s hidden gems, iconic landmarks, and breathtaking views. This ride brings together cyclists of all levels (e-bikes are welcome!) and every registration supports BikePGH’s mission to transform Pittsburgh into a more bike-friendly city,” said Kéya Joseph, Events Director at BikePGH.
“UPMC Health Plan is honored to once again be the title sponsor of PedalPGH. The event is a great way to get outdoors, enjoy a healthy activity, and experience the region’s best new in-city bike infrastructure,” said Dr. James Schuster, chief medical officer, UPMC Health Plan.
PedalPGH ride registration is open now and includes: A limited edition t-shirt and water bottle, personalized bib number, and ride swag from event sponsors. On event day, participants embark on their chosen route length while enjoying fully-stocked rest stops, aid stations from UPMC Sports Medicine, mechanics and support vehicles, plus route signage and a digital ride guide with turn-by-turn navigation. The Finish Line Festival in Allegheny Commons features free lunch, beer and refreshments, bike-powered misters to relax and cool down, entertainment from Shorty’s Pins x Pints, and tunes from DJ Willionaire.
Since BikePGH took over PedalPGH in 2012, the event has raised over $1.5 million for bicycle and pedestrian advocacy in Pittsburgh. Registration proceeds fund BikePGH, a registered 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit, that works on behalf of the Pittsburgh community to make the city safe and accessible for everyone to bike and walk. Participants can register online at PedalPGH.org
